JavaFX continues to make progress

Android applications, Flash Lite applications, JavaFX July 24th, 2009

I spent some time reading JavaFX FAQ and it seems that JavaFX is continuing to make progress and is taking head-on Flash. Some of the intereesting points I noted were:

- There’s no authoring tool as of today, and is expected later in 2009.

- JavaFX mobile support is not there, but Sun is working with OEMs.

- JavaFX today supports Windows and MacOS.

- JavaFX has already been demonstrated on Android.

- JavaFX is built on the technology that Sun acquired from SavaJE.

Microsoft, Adobe or HTML5- who will win?

Flash Lite applications, HTML5, JavaFX, Silverlight applicatinos July 16th, 2009

Much is being discussed about the Silverlight and how it compares to Flash. Now HTML5 standard is being backed by Google and Apple. The race is on for platform of choice. I came across this article that compares and contrasts three. The author predicts that HTML5 will be the winner….. I am not ready to predict winner just yet, but agree that the playing field is getting crowded. Add JavaFX and Sproutcore to the mix, and now you have five players where Flash was the only player until recently.

My Wii game adventure

Flash Games, Mobile games, Nintendo Wii, Sony PSP, sony ps3 June 17th, 2009

So I go to Walmart (of all stores) to buy a new game for Wii for my 10 year old nephew(Not that I am a serious gamer, but for some reason waiving my arms in front of TV to play Wii gives me great joy!). Of the 100s of games out there, we finally settle on couple. We come home and find that the games are total dud- not much can be changed in the background and there aren’t many options either. So he is upset that I got him a ‘bad’ deal(being a computer geek and everything he thinks I know everything about everything ;). Then it dawned on me that I should have spent some time researching on Gamestop or Testfreaks to find what people are saying about the game before purchasing. I can not return that game as the box is now open. So I am stuck with a game that he probably won’t play again and a bill of cool $39.99 (not to mention upset nephew)…. Lesson learned!

Is Hulu coming to PS3?

Flash Lite 3, Flash Lite Digital Home Devices, Flash Lite applications, sony ps3 June 15th, 2009

I read in one of the blogs on Seattle API that Hulu is coming to PS3. Hulu as you know has a large collection of content in HD (encoded in h.264). It is possible to play that with Flash 9 thats available on PS3. Now in addition to being a gaming console, blue ray DVD, PS3 will also be your DVR! Cool!
